Celebrating the not-so-small stuff | Rosie Abigail

This is going to be a different post. I won’t be chatting about chronic illness, or culture, or lifestyle today. Overall, I only really have one thing to say today – thank you.

I know a lot of people post big ‘thank you’ messages when they are about to take a break or announce the closure of a project, but don’t you fret, I’m firmly staying and creating on my corner of the internet. But I genuinely just wanted to say thank you to every single person who follows or engages with this blog. Let me tell you why –

I started writing on a completely unformed WordPress site whilst as an undergraduate student (I wonder if any of you remember those ‘Rosie Lewis Writes’ days?). Those posts were just words and thoughts on a page; a public journal if you will. It became a space that I could focus my attention on when I was struggling with depression, and became a project where I could just be and do, with no grades, no review, no worry.

As I moved into the world of work, this site became another lifeline for me. When creative projects were taken over by the nine to five grind, this space became where I could fill up my creative cup and keep challenging myself. The posts became more structured, more detailed, more passionate. It was no longer a journal, but a blog with articles, posts, lists, and stories.

Then, it slowly started evolving into something more. It became a space where a little community of like-minded people started to blossom – where readers would share their thoughts and bloggers could reach out their hands. Everything amped up again when in 2021, one of my posts went big within a niche of the body neutrality community. Suddenly, I had readers across the world; from South Korea to Russia, and even having double my UK readership in the USA!

Since then, this blog is no longer just my space on the internet. I’ve been able to share my writing with magazines, worked on paid advertisement campaigns, and even worked with my favourite ever brand (dear The Body Shop – I love you, forever and always). I’ve been able to reach others going through similar moments in their lives, or help to change the way people see the world. This blog has become an absolute pocket of sunshine in my life, and has opened the doors for me to create and cultivate freely. It’s become something I never imagined it could be.

Whilst I’m thankful for this community and corner of the internet everyday, the reason behind this post is that I just hit 600 direct followers on this blog (that’s folks who have subscribed via email or followed via WordPress). Sure, I know some of those accounts don’t engage or have been lost to time itself, but that’s still so many people who have chosen to follow my writing. And that makes my heart glow. Further to that, I have just reached 67,000 global reads. What?! That’s even bigger than the capacity of some stadiums. I can’t even fathom that many people reading what I’ve written. Ninety percent of those aren’t even followers so I guess SEO optimization is working pretty well.

Whilst 600 followers and even 67,000 global reads may not seem a lot to some people, especially in the grand scheme of things, they are everything to me. And it’s not about the numbers. It’s about the community, the fact I’ve managed to help or engage so many folks out there. In return, this blog has changed my world for the better. So, if you have clicked follow, found me through Instagram, or ever read one of my posts (including this one) – thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You’ve helped this emotional, erratic day-dreamer become a version of herself she is proud to be. Here’s to many more years of blogging, writing, and smiling together.

Oh, and thank you. Again.

  1. congrats! I’ve been following your blog for a few years now (maybe 4-5 years), and it’s been super fun to be along for the ride. I loved seeing the changes in your blog themes, and all the different kinds of posts you’ve written in that same amount of time. I can’t wait to keep following along and see what else you do xx
