Wow. Something really darn cool happened to me today, and I still can’t wrap my head around it. Let me fill you in on a little storytime.
Like most people on the planet, living and working whilst in a pandemic has been a struggle. The world seems to be falling apart, my anxiety is all over the place, and my creativity levels have been at an all time low. In all honesty, the most I’ve been managing to do outside of work is crocheting like the ninety-two year old I truly am. So, my blog has fallen to the wayside. I never wanted it to; I love writing and the sense of purpose it gives me. But with feeling as creative as a wet mop, I haven’t found the drive to keep up with two posts a week and have been sporadic posting at best.
Imagine my surprise when I start getting the occasional notification on my blog. New follower. New like. New share. I mentioned to my fiancée that I have no clue what’s going on – “I guess people like it when I shut up!” But it keeps going. New follower. New like. New share. Hmm. I assume someone has found my post online, and offhandedly shared it in a Tweet. But this morning, I had another burst of responses. So, I decided to take a look at my stats.
Over the last two weeks, my May 2020 post ‘What Is Mid-Size?’ has been viewed nearly three thousand times and is growing every hour. I am floored. Who the hell shared my post? Did they make a mistake? So, I dig a little deeper and thanks to the rather excellent WordPress stats box, I can see they are all coming directly from Google.

What. The. Heck?
At this point, I’m feeling that burn in my chest; the one that comes with being slightly scared but also excited. So, I type it into my search bar – “what is mid-size?”. And damn… My little blog post is the number one search out of 1,940,00,00 results. So I try it all – incognito mode, “midsize style”, “what is midsize?”, “mid-size”. I’m still there – front page, amongst the bona fide bloggers, news outlets, and the occasional photo of a mid-size car. I get my fiancée, mum, and best friend (all spread across the UK) to look, and they can see it too. It’s real. It’s not some kind of weird work-stress induced fever dream.
I look at more stats, and I can see people have been reading from all over the world. Teenagers have linked me and my post in their Instagram bios or Linktrees, telling their friends to read it, calling me a “midsize babe”. I’m floored. All I’ve ever wanted to do is to have some kind of positive impact on the world, and I want my blog to be an extension of that. I’m getting butterflies in my stomach just thinking that I’ve affected people in some good way.
So to all you new followers and readers, I’d just like to reintroduce myself!
As the blog name suggests, I am Rosie, and this blog is my little corner of the internet. Having never settled on just one creative outlet, I am a bona fide creative mess and would not have it any other way. My body is ailment city, having lifelong asthma and allergies, being medicated for chronic anxiety, and I’ve just been diagnosed with PCOS. But I like to think that by having these issues, I can talk about them and help other people out who are suffering too! Outside of health and self-care, I’m a keen bean for mid-size style and body positivity, if you couldn’t already tell from the aforementioned post. I’m also a lover of travel, anything to do with productivity, and being wholeheartedly and utmostly creative.
If you decide to stick around and give my blog a follow, I hope you find something to interest, engage, or move you. Although my audience tends to be twenty-something women who are trying to make their way in the world (like me!), it’s a safe and welcome space for all. Seeing how my writing can actually have an impact has given me a push, a small spur of creativity that I have been missing for the past few months. So, I hope to keep on trucking, keep on writing about what is important to me, and entertaining anyone who will listen.
Thank you to everyone who has read or liked my blog throughout the years; it always means the world to me. And to my new readers; hello, welcome, grab a cuppa, and let’s go.
